Freehold, NJ –With Tim Tetrick in the driver’s seat, Meinzinger, Silva and Schnittker’s One More Laugh went wire to wire in a track record time of 1:50:3 to capture the 56th edition of the $300,000 Cane Pace by 4 ¼ lengths at Freehold Raceway.
Lothlorien’s Rockin Image, who took a failed charge at the winner on the final turn was second, 2 ¼ lengths in front of Marvin Rounick’s Urgent Action who was sent off at 60-1, as the rank outsider in the field of eight.
One More Laugh became the fifth Meadowlands Pace winner to win the Cane Pace and increased his lifetime earnings to $1,698,920 which includes 14 wins and 6 seconds in 23 tries.
When Tetrick was asked what his strategy was going in, he said “I thought I had the best horse and wanted to control it throughout. I knew I had a lot horse in front of me when Rockin Image challenged on the final turn and I just called for more and he responded like the powerhouse that I knew he was.”
Trainer and part owner Ray Schnittker said “We are off to the Little Brown Jug next and since he is a gelding, I hope for 4 or 5 more years of top notch racing.”
This was the first Triple Crown pacing victory in Schnittker’s career.
One more Laugh returned $3.40 to win, began an exacta of $14.60 and a trifecta worth $265.80.
Live racing resumes Thursday, September 9th with post time at 12:30pm.
