Heavily favored Ilia swept to victory today in the $25,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Green Acres Final for three-year-old trotting fillies at Freehold Raceway.
With Jeff Gregory driving, the daughter of Windsong’s Legacy took the lead from Pure Barre (Classic Photo) at the half-mile mark and stayed in front to the wire in 2:00. Pure Barre had the early lead with a 3-wide move to the quarter-mile pole, but had to settle for second. Don’t Cry Lindy (Chocolatier) finished third.
It was the fifth win in nine starts this year for the Linda Toscano-trained filly, who had won all three of her preliminary legs of the NJSS Green Acres series.
The $12,500 winer’s share of the purse boosted Ilia’s earnings this year to $45,000 for co-owners Paul F. Spears of York, Pa., and Paul E. and Josephine Spears of Hanover, PA.
