Freehold, NJ – Not only will racing fans at Freehold Raceway be able to watch and wager on the Kentucky Derby simulcast this Saturday (May 4), but they’ll also watch the kickoff of the Grand Circuit series. Three-year-old trotters will take center stage in the track’s signature events, the $66,000 Lady Suffolk and the $118,950 Dexter Cup.
The Lady Suffolk drew a field of nine three-year-old filly trotters. The headliners of the field include Magical Beliefs, winner of the Keystone Classic and the Liberty Bell last year, Golden Tricks, a third-place finisher in the Garden State at the Meadowlands back in November, and Rush Lane, coming off an impressive win in her three-year-old debut at the Meadows. The Lady Suffolk is scheduled as the ninth race, with an approximate post time of 3:10 p.m. (EDT).
Fans got a sneak preview of the Dexter Cup field last week, when Whirl Winds K nosed out Cavill Hanover in a thrilling elimination. The top seven finishers from that race will return to face Osterc, who received a bye to the final.
The likely favorite, Osterc will make his three-year-old debut after a sparkling two-year-old campaign capped off by a win in the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Final at the Meadows. The Per Engblom trainee will have usual driver Yannick Gingras in the bike. The Dexter Cup will be the 10th race, with a scheduled post time of 3:30 p.m.
The first of 13 races on the Saturday card at Freehold is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
