Last Saturday’s divisions of the New Jersey Sire Stakes- Standardbred Development Fund for 3-year-old filly pacers at Freehold Raceway looked like coronations for two Tony Alagna-trained fillies. Odds on Sarasota, the New Jersey Sire Stakes champion at the Meadowlands went off at 4/5 in her race. Meanwhile, Caviart Heather went off at 2/5 in her division.
However, both of them lost, with Odds on Sarasota breaking stride early on, and Caviart Heather finishing second by half a length. Both will seek revenge on Saturday, in the second leg of their series.
Caviart Heather drew post position four in her division, which is scheduled as the third race on the program. She has some stiff competition, including Git Go, who won her division of the first leg last week, and Thundra, who finished one length behind Git Go. Jason Bartlett will be in the sulky on Caviart Heather.
In the second division, Odds on Sarasota drew the inside post position in the field of seven, which will be the fifth race on the card. Feeling Sweet, who upset her stablemate last week, is drawn to Odds on Sarasota’s direct outside, and once again looks like a serious win contender.
The card also features the first division of the NJSS-SDF for 3-year-old colt & gelding pacers. A field of seven will line up in there, with JK Lucky Charms, for Brett Pelling, the likely favorite. He won a division of the Stallion Series at the Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono last out, going the mile in 1:50.4. That race is scheduled as the seventh, with a post time of about 2:30 PM EDT.
The first of thirteen races at Freehold this Saturday will be at 12:30 PM EDT.
