Pair of Trotting Stakes at Freehold Friday

Freehold Raceway will host a pair of stakes for 3-year-old trotters this Friday (September 18), including one featuring a track record holder.

In her last start, Common Sense S equaled the mark for 3-year-old filly trotters at Freehold, winning the Garden State Trot in 1:55.2. She’ll seek her third win in a row in the final of the New Jersey Sire Stakes- Standardbred Development Fund. Two races back, she won the second leg of the series by 3 1/2 lengths, in an easy front-running effort. Her task will be made a bit more difficult by her post: she’s on the outside. Trainer/driver Ake Svanstedt will likely be sending her hard to the lead from that spot.

In contrast, her fiercest rival will leave from post position one. Ab’sattitudeexpress won the first leg of the series by 6 3/4 lengths, stopping the clock in an impressive 1:56.2. Last out, she chased Common Sense S all the way around the track, and was in position to strike when she broke stride on the final turn. She’ll look to avoid any mishaps here, for trainer Lucas Wallin and driver George Brennan.

That race is scheduled as the seventh race, with a post time of about 2:30 PM EDT.

Earlier in the day, the colts & geldings division of the Garden State Trot will take place, with a field of five signed up. Kasha V, who won the first two legs of the NJSS-SDF, looks like the one to beat. He has post position four, for trainer Tom Corelli and driver Austin Siegelman. They’ll go to post in the third race, scheduled for about 1:10 PM EDT.

The first of eleven on Friday at Freehold will go at approximately 12:30 PM EDT.
